biography

Born in a dingy Glasgow rehearsal room in 2004 by Stuart McGregor, James McLeod, Chris McGuire and Chris Pepper, De Soto Firefly initially met by chance and realised they had a common musical goal - TO ROCK UNTIL THEY BLED.

After a few weeks of rehearsal it became clear there was something pungent brewing and in early 2005 the band began a period of intense gigging where the material which would eventually make up their first EP (Almost Perfect, 2005) was road-tested. Once released, the band set its sights further and looked to expand upon its musicality by exploring different song structures and incorporating different musical ideas. The result of this shaped the band’s second release (Cutoff Frequency, 2006) which was seen by many as a large progression from their debut EP. Not content on resting on their laurels, the band threw themselves into another relentless period of live shows and intense songwriting.

During this time, founding member Chris McGuire left the band and, after much searching, the vacant drum stool was filled by the diminutive Grant Kerr. Having solidified their line-up once again, songwriting within the band continued and it was soon clear that Grant’s touch brought a new dimension to the Firefly sound. The resulting EP (World’s End, 2008) was independently released and gained much acclaim from old and new fans alike. Displaying a more progressive and heavier sound than before, the band began a series of shows that proved the demands of the recorded music could be captured in the live environment.

As an act which is continually looking to the future, the band returned to the studio - and resident producer/engineer Andy McGregor - in late 2008. The outcome of this session was another EP Gone Too Far. Featuring three new tracks, reviews and feedback were overwhelmingly positive and shows around the Glasgow area saw the band achieve some of its most favourable responses to date.

As for the future, De Soto Firefly have just released their fourth EP Losing Sleep featuring some of their heaviest work to date (with a rare acoustic effort also thrown in). It is hoped this latest EP will further their fanbase and bring the cult of the Firefly to an even wider audience!
